2011 McLaren MP4-12C

Set to become the first “modern” McLaren, the MP4-12C was designed over a five year period almost exclusively on McLaren’s world class computers, which are also used for the manufacturer’s Formula 1 cars. This enabled the engineers to completely develop and even test each element of the car before a single part was constructed. The MP4-12C features dynamic styling which was purposely designed to be timeless and relevant for years to come. While the end result looks kind of generic from certain angles, the designers achieved a fine balance between performance, functionality and driver comfort through superb packaging.

McLaren Automotive says the 2-seat MP4-12C will be the first in a range of high-performance sports cars it’s intent on building, and the two occupants will sit quite close together to make the car’s body as narrow as possible for more weight savings. McLaren has kept the cockpit of the MP4-12C as clean and purposeful as possible. For instance, the steering wheel has no buttons, while each door’s armrest incorporates individual climate controls. Access to the interior is through large ‘dihedral’ doors that are opened by swiping a hand underneath the broad shoulder running across the top of the door.

Lamborghini Reventon

The Lamborghini Reventon is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. It ranks as the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing one million euros (US$1.5 million, or £858,000). The official press release stated that only 20 vehicles would be released to the public, with one additional car (marked as 0/20) produced for the Lamborghini Museum. Although early rumors indicated the total number would actually be 100, each Reventon is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the driver’s and passenger’s seats.

Despite the exterior being new, almost all the mechanical elements (including the engine) are sourced directly from the Murcielago LP640. According to the official press release, the Reventon exterior styling was inspired by the “the fastest airplanes”. To emphasize this, Lamborghini staged a race between a Reventon and a Panavia Tornado fighter plane.

The Reventon’s engine was a slightly tuned version of the Murcielago LP640′s 6.5 L V-12, rated at 640 hp (480 kW). According to the official release, the Reventon accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in the same time as the Murcielago LP640 (3.4 seconds), and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of over 340 km/h (210 mph). Using the internal speedometer, the recorded top speed was displayed as 356 km/h (221 mph).

2.6mm Thick LCD Panel – LG’s thinnest 42-inch LCD

One of the coolest thing would be to have an animated picture like those in the Harry Potter movies, and you probably could get that effect with the world’s thinnest LCD TV. Yeah that’s right, The Thinnest LCD TV from LG would do just that. This 42-inch LCD panel, with a little tweaking, probably could hang on the wall like a picture frame, but forget about that silly idea and use it for what it was made for.

LG has announced a new 42-inch 1080p panel that’s only 2.6mm thin (a new record for thin LCD televisions). The prototype LED-backlit 120Hz display weighs just under 8.8 pounds. Like at CES 2009, thin TVs are still a hot trend for 2010.
