Lexus announced today it will offer a limited edition Nürburgring Package to LFA customers.

“This Nürburgring Package builds on the track-ready Lexus supercar with styling cues from the 24 Hours of Nürburgring prototype LFA racecar,” said Mark Templin, Lexus Division group vice president and general manager. “Driving enthusiasts will also appreciate the Nürburgring Package’s performance enhancements that were proven on the legendary German track.”

The 4.8L V10 engine for Nürburgring Package equipped LFA’s will produce 562 horsepower, 10 more horsepower than the standard high-performance LFA. The gear-shift time has been reduced by 0.05 seconds to only 0.15 seconds for even faster gear changes.

The Nürburgring Package is limited to only 50 units out of the 500 LFA hand-assembled for global distribution. It will also have the following features:

  • A sport-tuned suspension, exclusive black mesh-type wheels and dedicated high-grip tires for better handling;
  • And a larger front spoiler and fixed rear wing for improved high speed down force.

The design of the 2011 Lexus LFA is of of long wheelbase and short overhangs, sophisticated aerodynamics and low-slung cabin, the LFA’s lines flow from roof to sill in a seamless convex to concave line. As well as its low weight and high strength, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) also gave the designers more freedom to create shapes, curves and edges that would have been impossible with metal. The styling remains true, however, to the principles of L-finesse, the design rationale behind all current Lexus models. Form follows function, as witnessed n the numerous air intakes and aerodynamic details, and even in the design of the door mirrors, shaped to channel air over the car’s shoulders into the rear intakes.

Taking a look inside, the low-slung cabin is divided into three zones: the mechanical zone, which includes the skeleton of the car’s construction; the human zone, with two seats placed right at the centre of the car; and the driving zone, with high-tech instrumentation that brings driver and machine together. The cabin is hand-built, with driver-focused ergonomics. The seats, upholstered in fine leather and Alcantara, provide the high level of back and side support needed in a car capable of 200mph-plus performance. The trim echoes the advanced materials used in the LFA’s construction, with exposed areas of both matt and gloss carbon fiber. Trim details are finished in brushed metal and the floor-hinged brake and throttle pedals are made of forged aluminum. As with the exterior finish, owners can choose different interior colors and details to suit personal taste.
